Biography
Zhu Yufu is a Zhejiang democracy activist and poet associated with Democracy Wall and China Democracy Party activity.[1]
CECC recounts Zhu’s seven-year sentence in 1999 over party and publishing activities and another two-year term in 2007. He continued public expression and support for activists’ families.[1]
CECC’s account of the judgment identifies fundraising and statements from 2010–2011 as evidence. The defense described charitable assistance to activists and families; the court characterized the activities and statements as hostile to state power.[1]
CECC identifies materials including It’s Time, 21 articles, eight recordings and four videos. The defense argued that the expression and assistance did not endanger national security.[1][2]
Case Summary
CECC records detention on March 5, 2011, arrest on April 11 and supplementary investigation. Trial began January 31, 2012; Hangzhou’s intermediate court imposed seven years and three years’ deprivation of political rights on February 10, citing recidivism.[1]
The judgment invokes constitutional expression rights and restrictions protecting state and social interests. CECC argues that harm from the speech was not adequately substantiated; Amnesty condemned the sentence.[1]
