Biography

Ni Yulan assisted people facing demolition and housing-rights violations in Beijing.[1][2]

CHRD and Amnesty recount Ni’s detention after filming demolition in 2002, later serious mobility impairment attributed to treatment in custody, and demolition of her home in 2008.[1][2]

Ni faced renewed prosecution in 2011 while living in a guesthouse with Dong. The case profile describes an added fraud allegation concerning representations while seeking support; it was dismissed on appeal.[1][2]

Case Summary

CHRD records detention on April 7, 2011, arrest on May 17 and trial in December. The thirty-two-month sentence on April 10, 2012 was reduced to thirty months on July 27 when the appeal court dismissed the fraud charge. Dong received two years.[1]

Dong left prison in April 2013; Ni completed her term on October 5. Organizations reported recovery needs and earlier unsuccessful medical-release requests.[1][2]
