Biography
Li Tingting, also known as Li Maizi, is a gender-equality advocate and one of the Feminist Five detained in 2015.[1]
Li brought gender equality into public space, addressing harassment on public transport and everyday discrimination. Before International Women’s Day in 2015, activists planned public anti-harassment outreach but were detained before carrying it out.[1]
China Change published translated excerpts of Li’s April 20, 2015 thank-you letter. She thanked feminist and LGBT communities, classmates, lawyers, family and her partner. She said timely lawyer visits and news of support helped her maintain her innocence under interrogation and pressure to confess. She also wrote that relatives refused to urge her to admit a crime. She concluded that she would continue seeking innocence and freedom and pursuing feminism.[2]
