After the first lawyer visit in December 2016, counsel complained about treatment. Before the 2017 trial Wu denied guilt through lawyers, conflicting with an official account of admissions.[1]
The profile records appellate affirmance in April 2018, later family reports of pain and medical concerns, and actual release on May 18, 2023.[1]
Developments
Taken into custody outside a Nanchang court

Sentenced to eight years
Tianjin No. 2 Intermediate Court imposed eight years for subversion. The case profile describes restricted counsel and a closed trial. Wu denied guilt through lawyers while official accounts reported admissions.[1]
