Description
Li participated in an autonomous workers’ organization in Shaoyang in 1989 and received thirteen years. Amnesty International reported serious deterioration in health during imprisonment.[1]
After early release on health grounds in June 2000, he sought compensation for medical expenses and went on hunger strike. Detained again in May 2001, he received ten years and completed the sentence in May 2011.[1]
The 2002 urgent action records two medical releases: one in 1996, followed by return to prison during treatment, and another in June 2000. Li then sought compensation to cover medical costs, undertook a twenty-two-day hunger strike in February 2001, was detained again in May and received a ten-year sentence in September.[2]
